Raven, just wanted to let someone know I'm heading out spelunking on Saturday. If you don't hear from me by 11am on Sunday, it might be worth passing the attached coordinates on to an emergency crew to make sure nothing's gone wrong.
Not to alarm you, or anything, I just prefer to take sensible precautions.
Hey, stranger! So, uh, been a little while, huh? I'm here at the forge and, well, I'm kind of stuck here for a while. Offered to make some pet houses and all of that so I got some orders lined up and — well, was just wondering if you wanted to stop by and, I don't know, do some work together? I mean, you don't have to, but I know you get happy with a wrench in your hand so I thought I'd share the offer.
[ on the evening of stumbling into this city after agreeing to always ask permission before punching someone in the face, bellamy chooses to try and find raven. it's a little difficult to, what with technology not really being his thing when he'd prefer to deliver himself onto her doorstep, but asking around for a raven reyes is a little more agitating than it usually is on the ground — or in camp jaha. it's difficult to figure out her usual hunting grounds here, but bellamy supposes he has a phone in his hand and he might as well put it to good use. ]
[ it does cross his mind several times she may be livid with him, but he's never been the type to let such a little thing prevent him from reaching out or even being an annoying pest. he remembers the feast like it had been yesterday, can remember the fear that had clutched at him when the grounders had wanted to punish raven for a crime he had doubted she would commit — and he doesn't blame her at all for still holding onto that anger. sometimes bellamy looks for those cuts, but after watching her being drilled into by the mountain men, he knows that a sentencing of a thousand cuts is nothing to being used as though she's a guinea pig. ]
[ keeping his username the same as he had on the network, given clarke and o figured out it was him without even needing to wrack their brains for it, he thinks maybe raven will realise it, too. perhaps he should say something profound, but bellamy opts for: ]
Knock knock.
( text | username: raven.r ) YOU KEEP MAKING ME SING THAT SONG IN MY HEAD
[Raven hasn't expected this. Clarke and her, barring the one occasion they were snowed in and had to, they don't spend time together as much as they inevitably did in their world. There is a separation here, one that suits them both and feels oddly healthy. Emotionally, it'd be a kick in the teeth to see the woman who mercy killed Finn, knowing that if the roles had been reversed she wouldn't have dared; Raven would've sooner attempted to murder Lexa and ended up dying the same way next to Finn. (And for a few days, she'd honestly thought she would.)
The first day she'd found Clarke here, she'd told Raven about Bellamy; they'd never met in this place. Raven shrugged it off, thinking he'd filled his contract quick and been more efficient than anyone, and that was his prerogative as she had no rule over him. (It had stung a bit.)
So now there's a message coming in, and she does dare to hope.]
[ bellamy thinks it's best that he let raven know murphy's in town. he doesn't know how he wants to, he just knows he needs to. it's probably best the news comes from him, even though bellamy doesn't know why he even believes that. ]
[ it's news. it's shit news. it's whatever. ]
[ but he has a feeling if she finds out he'd spoken to the dick, she may rip him a new one for not giving her a head's up the ark's most hated teenager is in town. and bellamy doesn't really want to lose his spot on her couch. her company's nice and warm, even if she's a bit of a pain at times. she's one of his good friends he doesn't want to lose. losing her, however temporary it may be, over this isn't worth it to him. ]
[ text is easier than a phone call, only because it means he gets to stall and prepare his words. it means she can let him know if she already knows he's here. it's detachment at its finest, anyway. ]
[clarke had already informed everyone else she needed to about wells having arrived earlier when she ran into him upon leaving the meet and greet. they were there, knew that he died and everything else that happened following that meanwhile it all something that occurred before raven arrived which is partially why she saves this conversation for last]
[ the last time this happened, bellamy figured it was kind to let everyone who happened to know his sister know she'd chosen to leave. but bellamy figures being selfish right now isn't necessarily a bad thing. octavia's gone yet again, and he's left at a crossroads of trying to decide of what to do. he always thought he'd leave with her instead of letting her go by herself. ]
[ maybe it's character development he's even chosen to tell only a few people. he expects nothing from raven; it's common courtesy to let her know someone she knows is gone. although he's found murphy's number to be disconnected, this person's worth him informing people of her departure. ]
[either octavia has a lot of luck with getting affection or bellamy is just unlucky to have to go through this again. she knows how it hit him the last time, this time around can't be any easier.
nobody on the ark has a sibling, but raven still knows the way losing your family feels; even when you know they're out there, possibly okay, you're still ready to hop into a space bucket just to make sure. whatever text she has ready, written: i'm sorry bell looks so insufficient.
[ valentine's day is a stupid day in his opinion. if you want to celebrate love, pick a day and fucking do it. but he figures there's a reason why everyone's getting their knickers in a twist over it, and so he uses his sleepless nights to run away from the mountain with a new project. it's what mom had taught him on the ark, asked him to help her so they could trade among those in section 17. he doesn't do this so he can get something in the end. it's not really a big deal to bellamy. he just figures people want to know that they're appreciated. ]
[ raven so much as admitted it to him. and it's not his duty to show her, but it's his choice, as her friend, to remind her when she's being a big fat idiot. he doesn't know how to do it in a way that she might want, or the way that she needs it, but he tries. showing her a side of him he hasn't made a point to let anyone know, it's a piece of that boy he used to be that he gives her now. ]
[ in a small cardboard box with no postal address or stamp (perhaps someone had delivered it himself in the early hours), there's a christmas tag inside. bellamy hadn't bothered to fill in the to, simply writing You have family over the entire thing. it sits on the head of a knitted friend; she'll find a bird inside with some company and raven's family. ]
[She's told enough people where she lives that the list could be made up of more than one name by now, but she doesn't want to try guessing who the gifts are from. Instead, she puts them in the bedroom, next to Bastet, on the night table she doesn't use.]
[ it's strange to him how spending a few months on the ground has made him long for it more than the four walls of the home he'd had on the ark. he finds he wants to go out there now, reconnect with where his life had become to twist and turn and even swerve out of control. a part of bellamy wants to be by himself, and so he sits on it for days, not quite making much of a move to get himself ready as he would be if he was truly set in going out into the mountains by himself. another part, the one that takes control now, wants company — even though he's intent to brood and wants his space. ]
[ either way, he'd end up calling raven. instead of wanting to ask her to look out for his dogs, make sure she walks them with clarke, he finds that his intent has twisted out of his hands. he wants to run away from her, from the things that have cropped up between them, but bellamy finds he's the best at sabotaging his own intricately formed plans. ]
[ he should text raven, but instead ends up calling her. ]
[ bellamy's dozed off on the couch a few times today, but he can't quite sleep. and when he can't sleep, his mind runs a million miles an hour, drops from space, stretches along the earth — he needs to take his mind off of getting stuck in his head, so he goes to the store and gets a cake mix. then remembers someone wanted to learn, or probably sabotage his attempts at baking a cake. ]
[ it doesn't take much of a genius to figure out octavia isn't close to being the grounder that they've all come to know, but bellamy still feels overwhelmed with fright at the realisation she doesn't remember much of anything. for once, he doesn't know what to do, and so he falls back on a tactic that's always served him mediocrely well — being overprotective. ]
[ if anyone understands not wanting to know much about the future, it has to be raven. ]
